Did you know that ‘play talk’ plays an important role in young children’s readiness to read?  What exactly is play talk? In her research, Dr. Betty Bardige describes it as: “…Imaginative, Responsive, Rich conversations that young children engage in.”  She makes a strong case that these conversations are a key factor in building vocabulary and oral language development — and are better predictors of later school success than family income, race or social status.  Her wonderful book is: Talk to Me Baby: How You Can Support Young Children’s Language Development by Betty Bardige, Ed.D, Brookes Publishing, 2009.   For more information see the web site: http://www.awealthofwords.com
