This is page 4 of my book,
Make Time for Reading- a Story Guide for Parents of Babies and Young Children available at http://www.readingfarm.net.
Sometimes as parents we are just too tired to read every, single night.
So what’s a great alternative?
Tell your child stories! Stories build closeness and an appreciation for family traditions and memories ….especially funny stories you might tell about yourself as a child.
OR ….
check out books-without-words from your children’s library. Then you can make up the story as you go… with help of course from your little one.
with the adults in her life reading, singing and talking with her since birth, my great-niece is on her way to becoming a reader. at 10 months she loves her books, babbles as she turns the pages, places the book right side up if it’s upside down and kisses the pictures she likes. removing a book from her hands induces passionate tears! she is also singing and has some language which is understood by those close to her; for example, she pats her leg and says ‘egg’.
put into action, the straightforward parent messages in MAKE TIME FOR READING can help to build a joyous and effective foundation upon which to raise a reader.
